GP Welfare

GPs sometimes work in highly stressful situations and colleagues, from time to time, need support.

Highland LMC can provide support and guidance in a number of ways. We can sign-post colleagues to areas of support such as the Counselling Service and GPs for GPs

Highland Occupational Health Department at Raigmore Hospital can also be a great source of assistance to those with on going health problems who require advice about returning to work or what happens if you cannot return to work for health reasons.

Member representatives can support colleagues at performance, disciplinary and grievance meetings.

Highland LMC can also sign-post colleagues to advice when things are about to go badly wrong in a practice and we have worked in collaboration with the Health Board in the production of two guides which members might find helpful (these documents are currently under review and will be available here shortly).

We would also recommend that you have a look at GP Support Resources

We have been sent information from a registered charity the Doctor’s Support Network.  We do not have any further details but it looks like it may be worthy of note (see their letter HERE).

The Cameron Fund is the GPs' own charity.  It is the only medical benevolent fund that solely supports general practitioners and their dependents. We provide support to GPs and their families in times of financial need, whether through ill-health, disability, death or loss of employment. We help those who are already suffering from financial hardship and those who are facing it.

Royal Medical Benevolent FundThe Royal Medical Benevolent Fund (RMBF) is the UK charity for doctors, medical students, and their families. We provide a range of support for doctors facing hardship due to age, ill health, disability and bereavement. The help we can offer includes financial support, money advice, wellbeing and mental health resources, back-to-work support, telephone befriending, and more. Visit rmbf.org for more info.
