BMA Conferences

LMC Members attend BMA Conferences each year.

The Medical Director and Business Coordinator attend the LMC Secretaries conferences in both Scotland and London – these are designed to support secretaries in the running of their LMCs and topics under discussion include finances, the legalities of running a company, and BMA and Government policy.

The BMA deliver two main conferences each year to which our members attend.

The BMA Scottish Conference is held at the Beardmore Hotel and we usually have five delegate places plus an observer place.

The BMA UK National Conference is held in different UK cities each year and we usually have 4 delegate places.

Places are allocated, where reasonably possible, to those delegates who both express an interest in attending and who are also willing and able to stand up and speak to a conference motion. Conference motions are submitted each year by GP representatives (and any other GP who wishes) to the Chairman’s Group.  The role of the Chairman’s Group here is not to dismiss motions but to assist those submitting them into finding the right language to get the motion passed by the Motions Committee at BMA. Those motions that are successfully received will go forward to conference, are then debated and votes either accept or reject thus forming BMA policy which is then utilised by our national negotiators to influence government.
